I interrupt your weekend to share some inspiration sent to me, and stumbled upon this past week, with you.
Make Good Art
Just do it.
Thank you for this one Erika!
JR — Use Art To Turn the World Inside Out
What struck me to the core about JR’s TED Talk (from 2011) is when he talked about how his projects got people asking questions, and how…
during that time they hadn’t thought about what they were going to eat tomorrow…this is art…Creativity becomes the motivation and then it becomes more; a desire, a need…
Amen!
I loved his Women Are Heroes project and how he uses art to bring people together, changing the world with paper and glue, imagine that.
The talk is 24 minutes long, definitely worth it. A movie has been made to debut exclusively on HBO on Monday, May 20th at 9pm.
I’ve been making mixes on 8tracks.com, so I decided to dedicate a page here too.
I listen to all kinds of music when I paint, depending on my mood. It can really enhance the creation process by energizing you, keeping you focused, and relaxing you if needed. I have hand-picked songs that have helped to inspire me and that I personally enjoy.
If you have any requests, please refer to me as DJ MC. What music do you listen to when you create? Have any suggestions for me?
In honor of Mother’s Day (May 12th!), Mariana, Mother and Child is May’s painting of the month. Click here for more information on my website. Prints also available.

All of May
May is Lupus Awareness Month. My sister and I both have lupus and I have a few friends who are afflicted with this illness. Since being diagnosed I’ve lost my hair, my energy, and my mind, but not my spirit. It doesn’t just affect me, it has an impact on the whole family, and on friends. I watched my sister suffer for years not being properly diagnosed. I’m honestly still learning a lot about lupus myself and would like to raise awareness as much as I can.
Did you know Julian Lennon is the Lupus Foundation of America Global Ambassador? Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds…Omg I just found this out…now?!! COME. ON.
Ten hours in exchange for one.
I didn’t know how important it would be.
I heard I’m sorry.
I saw it in writing.
It was so unexpected,
not in the usual way.
Thank you for this day.
One day at a time.
Saturday: Art for Healthy Living Exhibit
I didn’t get a chance to take too many photos at Saturday’s Meet the Artist Reception. I want to thank everyone who came. I had a great time being a part of the show with Heidi Zanelli, Diane Beem Wright, Colleen Darby, Lucette Banas, Lynn Lombardo, and gallery owner/artist Russell Cleversley. Also…really enjoyed the quinoa from the Healthy Food Demonstration by Kathy Venezia from the Be Healthy Institute in Hamburg, NY.
