Originally I had started the project as a challenge to myself and to diffuse my inhibitions about being photographed, which I have succeeded in doing. I wanted to learn photography and by committing to a photo a day, of myself, I would have a better grasp on how to use different camera modes and settings, lighting, angles, post processing techniques, and so forth.
This project has turned into a fun part of my daily routine. It has forced me to think creatively at least once a day and allowed me a few minutes to look at myself, and reflect on my life a little.
If I have extra minutes, I will play around with post processing to make a more interesting photo. If not, I have a bad photo for the day. I have a lot of these.
After the first couple of weeks, I learned that it is much easier to get the photo right beforehand with some planning, good lighting, and execution. After a few more weeks of practice, I felt much more confident. After 80 or so days, I learned that some people may question what you are doing and think you are selfish and/or narcissistic. A few weeks after that I learned that it is not something you have to explain to anyone. And so I keep going, in the hopes that I improve, but more importantly have a good time doing it.
All future posts will be updated daily here as I would like to keep this separate from my painting ventures, and I will update weekly here on my blog.
I use a Fujifilm Finepix s2950 which is referred to as a ‘bridge’ camera. I sometimes use my small Kodak Easyshare z1285. I got the Finepix as a gift for Christmas and I wanted to use it for a year and work with the manual settings while I save up to buy a DSLR camera. I’ve been looking at the Nikon D1500. I’ve listed some links to resources below that I have found inspiring and helpful and will continue to add to this list. Thank you for visiting!
